Two-time Olympic gold medalist and Rochester native, Abby Wambach, will take to the field at Sahlen’s Stadium this spring as a member of the WNY Flash.
Wambach, 32, most recently led the U.S. National team to Gold at the 2012 London Olympics, after which she was voted the top women’s soccer player in the world. She is also a five-time recipient of U.S. Soccer Player of the Year, as well as a three-time University of Florida All American, and a local hero in Rochester, NY.
Along with Wambach, the WNY Flash attained two-time Olympic gold medalist Carli Lloyd, Canadians Bryana McCarthy and Jodi-Ann Robinson, and Mexico national players Veronica Perez and Pamela Tajonar.
The WNY Flash is one of eight teams who will play in the new Women’s Professional Soccer League in 2013. The Flash will play their home games at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, and train out of owner Joe Sahlen’s indoor facility, Sahlen Sports Park, located in Elma, NY.
